Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad said that Qatar and Saudi Arabia can discuss participation at the upcoming Astana talks on the situation in Syria when the two countries end their support for terrorism.
In a statement to Lebanese Al Mayadeen TV on Wednesday, Mikdad said that “All those who want to work faithfully to resolve the crisis in Syria, respect its sovereignty, fight terrorism with it, and annuls boycotting it can participate in the talks,” he said, adding that there will be no role for those who support, arm, and fund terrorists.
He also said that the United States must show honest intentions in dealing with proposed solutions, stressing the need to pressure Turkey into closing its borders with Syria, prevent the support of terrorism, and hold accountable those who fund terrorism.
The talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana are due to be held on January 23 with the aim of helping to kick-start a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
