Regime forces and allied militias on Wednesday carried out a massacre in the besieged Waer district in the Homs countryside killing and wounding a number of people including women and children.
An activist in the Homs Media Center, Mohamed al-Subaie, told Alsouria Net: “Regime warplanes carried out four air raids which struck residential buildings in the besieged Waer district, coinciding with artillery and rocket fire, which killed five civilians and wounded more than 30 others, including some who are in a serious condition.”
Subaie said that “the number of martyrs is expected to rise given the severity of the wounds as medics were forced to carry out amputations in some cases.”
The Waer district suffers from a lack of medicine and equipment as the regime siege has prevented most medical supplies from entering for more than three years as well as preventing the entry of foodstuff for four months.
The district over the past days has seen an escalation of force by the regime, according to Subaie, as “An attempt by the regime to evade the agreement made with the Syrian opposition inside the district and which provides for the release of their prisoners, as well as the regime trying to pressure the people and achieve a policy of displacement and demographic change.”
