Assad Says Terrorist Project in Syria Has Failed

The victories of the Syrian army against terrorism have helped shift the international stance toward the Syrian crisis, President Bashar al-Assad said Wednesday.

The president’s comments came at a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari, during which Assad hailed the failure of the terrorist project in Syria.

Assad pointed out that the change in international attitudes has been prompted by the victories achieved by the Syrian army and its allies on the ground.

More importantly, he said, these attitudes should be combined with actions that lead to an end to state support for the remaining terrorists in Syria.

He also highlighted the importance Tehran’s support for the Syrian people in their fight against terrorism.

During his trip, Ansari also met with Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem to discuss preparations for the next round of the Astana meetings, which will be held in September.
