PM: Deir-ez-Zor Soon Within Army's 'Broadening Reach'

Prime Minister Wael al-Halki hailed the growing popular resistance against the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization in the province of Deir-ez-Zor.

Locals in the eastern province have recently rallied against ISIS in various areas, protesting the draconian rule of the extremist organization, which regularly punishes people for “apostasy” by inflicting acts of killing, abduction, rape, decapitation and crucifixion.

There has been a surge in acts of defense, and even attacks on behalf of locals, in an attempt to curb ISIS’s brutality in a number of villages and towns, with the organization suffering losses in many cases.

Members of the People’s Assembly representing Deir-ez-Zor reviewed the violent practices of ISIS in a meeting with the premier on Thursday.

The MPs also referred to acts of pillaging, armed robbery of food supplies provided to the province, and vandalism against oil pipelines and electricity and communication networks.

The premier assured that the province of the PM would soon be within the Syrian army’s broadening reach as an extension of the remarkable gains it is now making in the southern region and elsewhere.
