Moallem Meets de Mistura

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid Moallem has confirmed that Syria's priority is to combat terrorism, saying that without dealing with terrorism, it is not possible to begin reconstruction in Syria.

Meeting with U.N. special envoy to Syria, Staffan De Mistura and an accompanying delegation, Moallem said that the will of the Syrian people wıll determine their future, adding that the Syrian people have elected their president and leadership and all should respect this.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the priority of combating terrorism, particularly from the so-called Islamic State and the Nusra Front, by drying its resources and pressing countries which support them to stop financing, arming and training terrorists, implementing the items of Security council resolution No. 2170.

Discussions also concentrated on encouraging and providing a suitable atmosphere for local reconciliations, as well as pushing dialogue among the Syrians forward to end the crisis and restore security and stability to the country.

De Mistura said he has the desire and will, on behalf of the U.N., to do anything that could end the suffering in Syria through combating terrorism and encouraging reconciliation, adding that the opportunity for a political solution should be paved because it is the safest way to solve this crisis.
