Barrel Bombs Prompts Exodus from Aleppo

Checkpoint crossings from the neighborhood of Bustan al-Qaser have become overcrowded over the last two days as thousands flee the violent government barrel bomb bombardment to government-held neighborhoods.

Soldiers at the Masharqa checkpoint however are preventing people from bringing any food to the liberated areas.

On Sunday morning, more than 2,000 people gathered at the rebel side of the crossing. But people face extreme difficulty in reaching regime-controlled areas because of the intense inspection and searches underway for wanted activists, the Aleppo Media Center reported.

Activists have documented cases of arrest and severe beating of civilians during the passage. One reporter said a 36-year-old man was beaten severely and then arrested by the soldiers at the checkpoint.
