President Bashar Assad on Monday met with the official delegation tasked with participating in international conference on Syria, which will begin in Geneva on January 22.
Assad gave the delegation directives, first among which is preserving Syria's sovereignty, preventing and rejecting any foreign interference in the country, no matter what its form or context, and not accepting any relinquishing of the well-known Syrian national standards, the most important of which being the preservation of the country and its people, and placing their interest above any other consideration.
Assad asserted that any deals reached at Geneva will not succeed unless the Syrian people accept it, and that any political solutions require first and foremost the complete cessation of terrorism. Included in that is the need to pressure the countries which support and sponsor terrorism to comply with international conventions, laws and norms, those which incriminate anyone who provides any form of assistance to terrorism and terrorist organizations.
The delegation is headed by of Walid al-Moallem and also includes Omran al-Zoubi and Bouthaina Shaaban, who are the deputy heads of delegation, Faisal Mikdad, Hussam Eddin Alla, Bashar al-Jaafari, Ahmad Farouk Arnous, Luna al-Shebl, and Usama Ali.
