The Syrian opposition’s National Coalition has formed a committee of eight members to assess the situation in the northeast of Syria, with the aim of developing a plan to endorse coexistence and tolerance between Syrian Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and other minorities.
Syria's northeast has recently transformed into a heated battleground between ISIS and armed Kurdish groups like the People's Protection Units (YPG) and allied peshmerga, in addition to regime forces and moderate rebels.
The committee’s objective will be difficult, as the Western-backed opposition group has little influence in the disputed area mostly controlled by ISIS. But activists believe the initiative can be seen as a sign of goodwill to bridge the gap dividing the Syrian people.
Fouad Alico, Abdel Ahad Estifo, Yasser al-Farhan, Salah darwish, Salem al-Muslet, Nazir al-Hakim, Nasr al-Hariri and Mohamed Kudroli are expected to chair the eight-person committee.
