New Aid Convoy Enters Moadamiyet in Damascus Countryside

An aid convoy of 24 trucks entered the city of Moadamiyet al-Sham in the western countryside of Damascus on Sunday, authorities confirmed.

The aid included 7,000 food packages, 7,000 flour sacks, medical materials, winter clothes, health packages and lighting equipment, according to local reconciliation official Mohammad Naeem Rajab.

Rajab noted in a statement to SANA that the convoy is part of a regular aid delivery to Moadamiyet.

He pointed out that 600 gunmen from the city benefited from a recent amnesty decree in the past few days after turning themselves over to the authorities as part of the local reconciliation process.

Rajab went on to say that Syrian army engineers have been working on sweeping the surroundings of Moadamiyet for explosives planted by the gunmen in preparation for the return of government establishments.

Local reconciliations have been achieved in several areas of the Damascus countryside, the most recent of them took place in Qudssaya city and Hameh town on Oct. 17.

On Aug. 27, authorities announced Daraya city was free of weapons and gunmen.
