Eight Kurdish civilians were kidnapped Tuesday evening while travelling between Tal Tamer, in the south-west of Hassakeh province to a nearby village.
According to one source involved in negotiations for their release, the group behind the kidnap is affiliated with the Islamist Ansar al-Shariah Battalion who are calling for the release of another person held by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) People’s Protection Committee militia as a condition for their release.
The area where the kidnapping took place is considered as a rebellious area under rebel control, which includes both Kurdish and Arab villages. It was shelled Tuesday by regime forces, but the results of the damage are not yet known.
