Khaddam, Tlass Sentenced to Death

As the regime announced that it will participate in the Geneva 2 conference, in line with Bashar Assad's political initiative, the terrorism court sentenced both former Vice President, Abdul Halim Khaddam, and Syrian businessman Firas Tlass, the son of former defense minister Mustafa Tlass, to death.

All4Syria has learned from informed sources in the ministry of justice that the terrorism court, located in the Mezzeh  district of Damascus, held a session Thursday issuing the execution sentences in absentia.

The decision also ordered the confiscation of all their property.

Both sentences can be annulled if Khaddam and Tlass surrender voluntarily to the Syrian authorities. In that instance, the sources said, a retrial will be held. However, if they are captured, the sentence will become absolute, under Article 6 of the Terrorism Law, which states: "There is no retrial for default sentences if the convicted is captured."
