Ghadir, a young girl from the Damascus suburb of Douma, lost her mother, three brothers and her right leg in regime shelling, only to be injured in a cluster bomb attack after having a prosthesis fixed.
The 12-year-old was with her mother and brothers on family visit when a regime rocket hit the building they were inside, immediately killing her mother and brothers, while Ghadir was transferred to hospital.
But Ghadir’s tragedy did not stop there, as she obtained severe injuries in her chest and lungs by shrapnel from a cluster bomb which hit her father’s house.
Activist Razan Khobiyah explained that she met Ghadir while she was receiving rehabilitation for her injuries and was attracted by the smile which rarely left her face.
She added that Ghadir was a very strong girl, ambitious and confident in herself, despite the pity she received from those around her.
“When I went to visit her after her second injury, I could not hold myself from crying, as I was angry from the brutal immoral regime’s war machine that does not exempt children and injure them without mercy,” the activist said.
Razan mentioned that Ghadir was doing well in her treatment and had recently moved to live with her grandmother, adding that her friends visit her frequently.
According to Razan, Ghadir once told her that she has hopes of becoming a teacher in the future.
There are more than 1,500 case of amputation in the eastern Ghouta only, 20 percent of whch affect children.
