Syrian rebels have killed one of the Assad regime's most notorious commanders in Eastern Ghouta on Monday, activists reported.
Activists said Ra'fat Salman Abu Rahhal, an officer in the elite Syrian Republican Guard, was killed near the equestrian club in the town of Otaiba. Rahhal was a key mastermind of the Otaiba ambush in northeast Damascus that left around 175 rebel fighters dead on February 26, 2014.
Rahhal was born in the village of Bataba in the coastal province of Tartous, a key Alawite stronghold of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
