2-1-2013 — By the end of Tuesday, January 1, 2013, the LCC was able to document 136 martyrs, including 6 women and 16 children. 42 martyrs were reported in Damascus and its suburbs; 44 in Hama, including 23 martyrs from the village of Maan and 16 from Hasraya; 15 martyrs were reported in Deir Ezzor, including 9 unidentified martyrs in the village of Hatla; 12 martyrs in Homs, including an entire family from Deir Baalba; 8 in Daraa; 9 in Aleppo; 4 in Idlib; 1 in Lattakia; and 1 in Raqqa.

 

In terms of shelling, the LCC recorded 287 points across Syria. 22 areas were subjected to aerial shelling. In 5 areas, the LCC documented barrel bombing, 2 areas were subjected to cluster bombs; and 1 area was subjected to thermobaric bombing.

 

Mortar shelling was reported in 125 areas and followed by artillery shelling in 98 locations. 38 areas were subjected to indiscriminate missile attacks.

 

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) clashed with the regime’s army in 133 locations, downed a MiG in Eastern Ghouta, and liberated the Khansaa School; this represents the first line of defense at Wadi Al-Deif and the regime withdrew from the checkpoints at Al-Hameh and Al-Bouhamid. The FSA was also able to seize control of the Toubian gas field in Toubian village in southern Raqqa and repelled a military convoy that was heading to Mowrak in Hama. In Aleppo, the FSA seized control of most of the military airports and issued a warning that they would target the civilian airport in Aleppo. The FSA also destroyed a significant amount of materiel, including regime tanks and personnel carriers throughout Syria.

Damascus Suburbs: Thayabieh: Three martyrs were reported after fierce artillery shelling from an artillery unit stationed at the Damascus International Fair and from tanks stationed in the 58th brigade; this was accompanied by clashes between the Free Syrian Army and the regime’s shabbiha at the city entrance

 

Daraa: Busra Al-Sham: Mortar shelling was reported in the western district of the city, and was accompanied by gunfire from heavy machine guns

 

Daraa: Khirbet Ghazaleh: Tanks stationed along the international highway are shelling the area, in addition to gunfire from heavy machine guns

 

Dara’a: Da’el: Shelling with artillery on the town by the Regime Forces

 

Damascus Suburbs: Beit Sahm: Renewal shelling by the Regime Forces since morning , and tens of shells were reported
