Unidentified assailants targeted a checkpoint of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad forces on the Damascus-Suweida highway on Monday evening, killing and wounding many of its members.
A Zaman al-Wasl correspondent said that unknown individuals attacked the Umm Zaitouneh military checkpoint, using individual weapons and pistols equipped with a silencer. They proceeded to seize weapons before fleeing.
According to the correspondent, the attack resulted in the death of two checkpoint members. One of them was Captain Ali Ayoub Ahmed, who hails from the city of al-Qaradhah, while three others were injured and taken to the Suweida Military Hospital.
He explained that large military reinforcements were brought to the area in conjunction with the installation of two makeshift checkpoints close to the targeted one.
