A German court in the Province of Bavaria has issued fines to five Germans for insulting and inciting against Syrian refugees.
German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reported that the ruling issued by the city court of Würzburg against the five “racist” Germans stipulates that they will be fined between 4,000 and 8,000 euros.
The court charged the accused, four men and a woman, with inciting hatred against Syrian refugees. The sentence was reduced from four months imprisonment to a monetary penalty.
The individuals had painted their faces in a dark color during the Francophone Carnival party, in a way to insult dark-skinned foreigners, while yelling insults such as “Damn Syrian refugees” and “Syrians rape women.”
The five Germans, according to reporting by Süddeutsche Zeitung based on police investigations, belong to the extreme anti-refugee right, and are also working on campaigns against refugees on instant messaging software, according to the Orient Net website.
Attacks against refugees and their shelters in Germany exceeded 1,700 in 2019, the majority of which were motivated by right-wing extremism, according to the German Office for Crime Prevention.
