Syrian authorities have been instructed to repay billions of pounds worth of outstanding debt belonging to military servicemen, reports the Syria Times.

President Bashar al-Assad has instructed authorities to repay the loans of soldiers who were wounded before Dec. 31, 2020, and borrowed from any public banks before Dec. 31, 2020.

The Fund of the Martyrs and Wounded will pay off loans worth up to 5 million Syrian pounds to any wounded soldier.

Thousands of wounded army, police, security and supporting forces will benefit from the repayment which is expected to exceed several billions pounds.
