Assad Sends Message to New Iranian President

President Bashar Assad on Sunday sent a message to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the occasion of his swearing in ceremony, calling for bolstering strategic relations between the two countries in all fields.

In the message, Assad said Syria and Iran will to continue to confront western and U.S. plots and tools in the region, which are aimed at undermining the axis of resistance.

The message was conveyed by Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi during his meeting with President Rouhani in Tehran.

President Rouhani said that "no power in the world can destabilize or undermine the deep-rooted, historic and strategic relations between the two friendly peoples and countries which are based on understanding, common destiny and fulfilling the aspirations of the two peoples."

He condemned the criminal acts in Syria, perpetrated by terrorists and their supporters, also stressing confidence that Syria will emerge from the crisis victorious soon.

Rouhani emphasized Iran's support to Syria's government and people to restore stability, confront challenges and support the reform efforts and the peaceful solution to the crisis.

He condemned foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs and stressed that the firm Iranian-Syrian alliance is aimed at maintaining stability in the region and supporting the just causes of its peoples, in addition to achieving comprehensive development between the two friendly countries.

The Iranian President said what is happening in Syria is a failed attempt to undermine the axis of resistance and resolve against the Zionist and U.S. plots in the region via support for terrorism and extremist groups.

Rouhani thanked Assad for his message and Syria's stance towards the Iranian leadership and people, stressing Iran will continue to consolidate relations with Syria and to stand together to face all challenges.
