NGO work mechanisms should be enhanced to move from conventional charities, to having more of a development role, the Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat said on Tuesday.
Shammat referred to the draft law being prepared by the ministry to regulate the work of NGOs, saying the law will provide the necessary legislative framework to activate civil society and enhance its contribution to development and social work.
She said the ministry is setting up regulations for the licensing NGOs so as to better boost their constructive participation in society and ensure that they reach the targeted beneficiaries and achieve the desired objectives.
