EU Last Minute Initiative Aborts Strike

Communities in the European Union have been acting with figures close to the regime in Syria in to try to overcome a quagmire that has seen diplomatic efforts recede in Syria.

The goal of these efforts is to discover a miracle at the last minute that may lead to halting the approaching American strike against Syria.

There is confirmed information that this will occur after the 67th session of the U.N. General Assembly on September 16.

According to information obtained by Al-Akhbar, the channels of dialogue between Syrian figures close to the regime and senior officials in the European Union, in addition to the British Foreign Office, were open mainly before the announcement of Obama's intention to launch aggression against Syria, but that dialogue in the last 48 hours intensified.

It was concluded that the fate of a military option will be failed results for both U.S. President Barack Obama and President Bashar Assad.

The information obtained also adds that both Britain and the European Union provided the Syrian side with what is called a "last minute proposal", as the sole way to avoid war, if approved by Assad.

It was also presented as the only formula that could be accepted by Obama to retreat from his decision to launch a military strike against Syria.

This proposal suggests that Assad should make a speech to Syrian people, declaring that he will not be a candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in the year 2014.
