The First Marathon of Peace to be Held in Qamishli

The marathon is organized by the Sawa Youth Coalition and Aredo Center for Civil and Democratic Society under the patronage of the civic Amwaj organization.

The marathon organizers have adopted a slogan for the event: Step by step towards peace.

The marathon will start in front of the Kindi Park in Quwatli Street at 10am and end in Mounir Habib square. The marathon will pass through areas populated with a variety of the city's communities, including Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians.

The idea of the marathon is not to reach the finish line first, as everyone will receive the first place and memorial medals. The focus, instead, is to draw attention on the participating communities and to take advantage of the situation to gather all sides for the event to deliver leaflets renouncing violence and sectarianism.

Doves of peace will fly in the sky of the city, accompanied by balloons of freedom, and a number of activities will be held at the starting and finish lines.

The Peace Marathon is part of a movement for civic events and activities aimed at promoting love and peace between components of the city, to foster a culture of joint action among all the communities, bridge the chasms developing and counter the emergence of sectarianism, according to the organizers of the marathon.

All city residents from different national, religious and political backgrounds will be invited, along with youth, political, civil and women's rights organizations, with the participation of social and political figures.
