Ghiyath Matar Aid Charity Institution Founded in Daraya

Residenst of the prominent outter Damascus Suburb of Daraya have established a charity to look after families of martyrs and wounded.

 

They named it “Ghiath Matar Organization,” sources reported to Zaman al-Wasl.

 

The institution relies on donations and charity to offer help aid to people in need, especially the families of the martyrs and wounded, as gratitude for the sacrifices their relatives made.

 

Ghiath Matar was very known peaceful activist from Daraya. He participated in most demonstrations and was known for his initative to give soldiers and security members flowers and water.

 

On 6 September 2011, Syrian regime security arrested Matar. His body was returned to his family four days later showing signs of torture. His throat was cut out and given to his parents who were told to "make shwerma out of it.”

 

A big funeral ceremony was held for him in which may of European and USA ambassadors attended. Later, pro-regime militia, nicknames "Shabbiha" attacked the funeral goers after the ambassadors left.

 

Ghiath’s wife gave birth to his son, naming him Ghiath as well.
