Government Plans to Terminate Tens of Thousands of Jobs

A source has confirmed to Damas Post that the Syrian Prime Minister Wael Halqi has asked members of his team to provide the cabinet with names of employees in government ministries and its affiliates who have illegally left the Syrian Arab Republic "or joined the armed terrorist gangs".

Halqi asked them to work on providing the presidency with the names before 20 November, 2013, under the threat of penalty for any delay or failure to complete the task.

The source said the government move is evidence of the government's intention to dismiss large numbers of employees.

The source added that most of the employees have been discharged from their service since the beginning of 2013 (nearly 3,000 people) are those who already left the country illegally, have joined armed groups or are helping them outside official working hours.

Sources confirm that the numbers will reach tens of thousands, while those discharged from service for financial and administrative corruption do not exceed ten.
