Jamous: We should Communicate with Russia

Jamous said there must be dialogue with Russia given its ability to veto resolutions at the Security Council

The Secretary General of the Syrian National Coalition Badr Jamous said that the opposition should communicate with Russia on the Syria file.

“We should communicate with Russia over its role in the Syrian file and its ability to prevent decisions at the U.N. Security Council.”

In an interview with the Turkish Anatolia news agency in Istanbul, Jamous said that "there should be a dialogue and understanding with Russia, especially in the light of preparations for the Geneva II conference to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.”

“We must communicate with Russia, a country that has a great role in Syria, especially with because of its ability to veto resolutions at the Security Council. So there should be a dialogue and understanding with the Russians to know the reasons that prevented them from contributing to the solution of the Syrian issue and their insistence on supporting the regime."

Jamous pointed out that Coalition leader Ahmad Jarba will visit Moscow, “if there are positive steps by the Russian side.”

He added that the Coalition "will not cut relations with Russia,” adding that “there will be visits by delegations, although the visits may not be at the presidential level, to negotiate and engage in a dialogue in order to provide real support for the revolution and the Syrian people.”

Jamous said that the Coalition "believes that there is a clear change in Russian policy, and we must work to develop this better.”
He described his meeting with Bogdanov in Geneva last week as “good, especially after the chill in relations with Moscow, and the continuation of meetings will benefit the case," without giving details about the content of talks.
