Zaman al-Wasl has received a leaked email from Suhair Atassi to the Presidency of the Syrian National Coalition announcing her resignation of the Coalition.
Confusion emerged among the 25 young striking members of the Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU), which Atassi also Chairs, given Atassi did appear to resign from the ACU as well.
The email stated her resignation from the Coalition, where she acts as Vice President under Ahmad Jarba.
According to those striking, their demands were for a meeting with Atassi, who refused to respond to the demands of the ACU members.
Sources told Zaman al-Wasl that the decision about Atassi’s presidency of the Coalition escalated the situation. Their demands were met with the sacking of four members, however, that decision was delayed after Atassi’s resignation.
According to one of those striking, they demand an investigation in to administrative corruption and nepotism in appointments, particularly the deputy head of the unit, the director of information office, and the director of human resources.
The sources also said there are demands to limit the powers of the head of the unit, and appoint an executive director with logistical expertise in development and relief work.
