Ban: Preparations Underway for Geneva III

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday announced that preparations are underway for the start of the third conference on Syria, dubbed  “Geneva III”.

Russian ITAR-TASS news agency quoted Ki-moon as saying in a press conference in Brussels that the Geneva II conference, whose two rounds of talks were held in January and February, didn’t bring about results.

“The U.N. must mobilize the political will of the international community and that the Geneva-II conference had not yielded much prospects. The U.N. is working hard on preparing a Geneva III meeting,” Ban added.

Earlier, Syria’s Permanent Representative to U.N. Bashar Jaafari expressed Syria’s readiness to take part in the upcoming rounds of talks for implementing the draft agenda that was agreed on in Geneva II and committing to the mechanisms of its implementation and entering a Syrian, regionally and internationally acceptable track for solving the crisis in Syria.
