Tehran: No One Can Impose on Syria

Zarif says presidential elections in Syria could help solve the crisis

The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has reiterated that a peaceful solution is the only solution to crisis in Syria, noting that presidential elections in Syria are helpful for unity.

At a joint press conference with his Austrian counterpart Sebastian Cortes in the Iranian capital Tehran, Zarif added that solution in Syria should be through inter-Syrian dialogue, calling upon concerned countries  to contribute to work on launching this dialogue to halt violence and allow the Syrian people to determine their destiny by themselves.

He criticized some countries' attempts to impose their will on the Syrian people, reaffirming that no one can impose their dictations on the people of Syria.

Zarif considered presidential elections in Syria could play a significant role in solving the crisis.

“The opportunity is favorable for all political trends to come together and make optimal use of this opportunity to establish peace in Syria,” he said.
