Sisi Congratulations Sparks Outrage in Syrian Opposition

The first reaction was the resignation of the Syrian National Coalition member and Muslim Brotherhood leader, Ali Sadreddine al-Bayanouni

An official congratulations letter sent to Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on his inauguration as president of Egypt by the opposition Syrian National Coalition has sparked outrage among opposition circles.

Several Coalition members have expressed their condemnation of the Coalition leader Ahmed Jarba, saying it  is "shameful" to congratulate him,

Zaman al-Wasl sources said the letter was a result of Saudi pressure on the Kingdom’s man in the coalition, Jarba.

"The Coalition has turned out to be no more than a tool to endorse the foreign policy of ِArab gulf state," one source said.

The first reaction to surface was the resignation of the Syrian National Coalition member, Ali Sadreddine al-Bayanouni, the former Comptroller General of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria.

According to his resignation letter, obtained by Zaman al-Wasl, Bayanouni said, "I was surprised, like many others, that the Coalition represented by its president, had sent a message of congratulations to the insurrectionists of the Egyptian revolution, praising their success in the coup which undermines the revolution of the Egyptian people.”

This congratulations "is not much different than congratulating Bashar Assad", according to Brotherhood leader, as both Assad and Sisi have "made fabricated elections mixed with blood".

“The National Coalition, which is no longer in my opinion, reflect the hopes and aspirations of our people in achieving the objectives of the glorious revolution," Bayanouni said.

Eyad Charbaji, a journalist and social media activist, posted on his Facebook page that: "This step could be a sign of political intelligence if it could solve the harsh life circumstances of Syrian refugees in Egypt, but it will be a silly and cheap if it was due to Saudi dictations."
