Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that President Bashar al-Assad has a mass popular support among Syrians, adding that Russia will not allow the "domination of terrorist organizations in Syria or Iraq because we don’t accept chaos in those lands."
"We have a similar stance to Turkey that the situation in Syria is unnatural…there is a difference in a number of issues, but our stance is common regarding the solution of the crises and how to deal with terrorism," President Putin said at a press conference with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
He said elections in Syria have shown that Assad possesses a mass, popular support.
"We have discussed the situation with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem and many others who say it is possible to find solutions that are accepted by all political sides in the country," he said.
