Mikdad: US, EU Policies Based on Lies and Hypocrisy

Collapse of US and EU values with narrow interests and hollow mottos attests to the ineffectiveness of their polices, claims deputy FM

Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad has told reporters that Western policies, particularly those of the French and British, are based on lies, hypocrisy and double standards.

“A lot of those officials don’t see other than their personal interests and low stances of their governments at the expense of reality,” Mikdad said in an article published by Lebanese al-Binaa newspaper on Saturday.

He added that the US and European states have issued many decisions increasing the suffering and pain of the Syrian people, while deepening the crisis further. Mikdad also wondered how the French and British governments could justify imposing sanctions on Syria while claiming they served the interests of the Syrian people.

The foreign minister pointed to the issuance of an EU resolution imposing sanctions on a number of Syrians for their involvement “in a project to use chemical weapons”, claiming the accusations are false as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has proved it contradicts with gathered evidence.

Mikdad further stated that the West deals with terrorists and terrorism in Syria in a “tricky way”, by supporting remnants of Muslim Brotherhood and their allies in the Islamic state in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the Nusra Front.

Mikdad said that the collapse of US and EU values with narrow interests and hollow mottos attests to the ineffectiveness of their polices, clarifying that Syria has joined many voices in Europe rejecting these double standards.
