Army of Islam Rejects Reports of Regime Advance in East Damascus

Group denies reports, claiming rebel fighters killed dozens of regime troops northeast of the capital

The Army of Islam has denied reports of gains by regime forces in territory under the rebel group’s control in east Damascus.

The key rebel group, which operates in the embattled suburbs of Eastern Ghouta and the Qalamoun region, stated its fighters killed 24 regime troops northeast of the capital on Monday.

State-run media claimed the regime army had recaptured two bastions from the rebels who control most of eastern countryside of Damascus.
