Syrian Women Launch Social Development Initiative

Participants gather at Damascus' Qasr al-Qaisar Hotel to discuss the role of women in rebuilding and strengthening Syrian society

Syrian women on Saturday launched an initiative to enhance the role of women in rebuilding, developing and maintaining social cohesion and unity in the war-torn country.

The initiative, dubbed “Syrian Women”, held its first meeting at the Qasr al-Qaisar Hotel in Damascus, under the banner “Syrian women in light of the crisis”.

Ruba Mirza, one of the project’s founders, stressed the importance of launching such gatherings to develop the role of women in rebuilding Syria, physically and spiritually.

For her part, Social Affairs Minister Rima al-Qaderi noted that Syrian women have proven time and again to be scientific and practical in their ability and effectiveness in times of crisis.

Participants also highlighted the importance of developing conditions to enable Syrian women and to further their role in the educational, economic, social, political and legal sectors.
