Fatah, PLO Delegates Meet With Syrian Political Figures

Arab Socialist Baath Party Assistant Regional Secretary Hilal al-Hilal met on Thursday with a member of the central committee of the Palestinian Fatah Movement Abbas Zaki and the Director of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Political Bureau in Damascus, Ambassador Anwar Abdul-Hadi.

Hilal stressed that Syria’s position on the Palestinian cause will remain the same, adding the cause will continue to be the central issue for Syria and the main pivot of the Israeli-Arab struggle.

He added that despite foreign pressures, Syria’s political leadership will continue its support for the Palestinian people and their national resistance until victory is achieved over the Israeli state.

Hilal expressed regret that some Palestinian factions have pretended to forget Syria’s support. He however hailed what he called the new intifada, which has erupted in many Palestinian cities, saying it is the only way to regain the rights usurped by Israel.

For his part, Zaki said that Syria is paying a heavy price for its national and pan-Arab stances, and yet has not changed its equal treatment of Palestinian refugees.

Zaki also met with Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar, who stressed that the Syrian government has employed all the required measures to protect and meet the needs of Palestinians living inside Syria.

Following his meeting with Zaki, Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs Ali Haidar told reporters that the meetings with the visiting Palestinian leaderships aims at acquainting Syrian officials with the current situation of the Palestinian people inside the Israeli-occupied territories.
