‘Situation Normal’ in Hama Central Prison: Interior Minister

Interior minister denies reports by numerous media outlets regarding mass rioting inside Hama prison following visit to facility

Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar stressed that the situation in Hama Central Prison is normal, contrary to the lies and fabrications spread by malicious media outlets as part of their anti-Syria propaganda.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to the facility with Justice Minister Najm Hamad al-Ahmad, the officials promised to provide for inmates’ needs and ensure that none are subjected to grievances.

Meanwhile, Ahmad voiced his commitment to inmates’ rights, adding that the current goal is to rehabilitate offenders in order for them to return to being active members of society and lead normal lives.

SANA’s correspondent met with a number of inmates who said that life in the prison is quiet and normal, with prisoners still receiving visits from their families, adding that there is no truth to the claims made about the facility and the conditions inside it.
