Separating Moderate Opposition from Terrorist Groups Main Task in Syria: Peskov

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov asserted that the key task in Syria is the separation of the moderate opposition from terrorist groups in order to make further progress towards a lasting peace process.

“Without doubt, this gives hope that this will promote the peaceful resolution and will create the necessary atmosphere for political settlement,” Russia’s Sputnik quoted Peskov as saying to the journalists on Wednesday.

“The truce regime remains rather fragile in Syria and further promotion of (a peace) settlement in Syria is hardly possible without the separation of [moderate] opposition forces from terrorist groups,” Peskov added.

On September 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry announced a new plan on Syria which stipulated a ceasefire that came into force Monday.
