Regime Tightens Control in Damascus as Rebels Renew Attacks

Rebel group fighting in Jobar says regime forces have set up more checkpoints and closed several areas in the city, as opposition forces renew attacks on Syrian capital

Faylaq al-Rahman, one of the rebel groups participating in the attack on regime forces in the Damascus neighborhood of Jobar, said that the Assad regime set up more checkpoints, cutting off the city, as the opposition renewed its attacks this morning.

The group said on its Twitter account that the regime forces had established more checkpoints to cut off the capital Damascus and was conducting extensive searches.

“The sound of ambulances rushing toward Al-Mawasat and Al-Mujtahid hospitals has not abated and both the Abbasid Square and Al-Zabltani market have been completely closed,” the group said, adding that a curfew was imposed on Faris Khoury street and in the Al-Tajara and Al-Adawi districts.

Battles resumed today between opposition forces and the regime and its allied militias in the Karajat al-Abbassin area. Faylaq al-Rahman published a video clip of the first moments of an opposition assault on the Karajat area and another aerial video showing clouds of smoke rising from battle zones.

The group also said that opposition factions were complying with all international norms, keeping all civilians out of the line of fire.
