Syria's permanent representative to the United Nation on Tuesday condemned the monthly report on Syria by the under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, claiming that the document exposed a strong bias in the U.N.'s positions.
Addressing the U.N. Security Council in a session on Syria, Munzer Munzer said that after reviewing the report, the Syrian government expresses its regret and deep concern over the document’s approach, which reflects the opinions of certain states and parties which deliberately distort facts and deny the main causes for the situation in Syria.
He said that Syria has submitted a response to the U.N. which questions the intention of the authors of the report, which is designed to focus on means of tackling the humanitarian situation.
The envoy noted that the areas which the U.N. incorrectly classified as besieged are actually controlled by armed terrorist groups which impose a blockade on their residents and use them as human shields, adding that these groups also prevent humanitarian aid from entering these areas.
Munzer said the report’s use of the term “forced displacement” to characterize the reconciliations which have been accomplished in many areas across the country is a dangerous trend, as it reflects the stances of governments that seek to provide cover and protection for the terrorist groups in Syria.
He also condemned the authors’ biased endorsement of the American narrative about the alleged use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun, affirming that the incident was fabricated by foreign-backed terrorist organizations for the purpose of punishing the Syrian government.
