European Trade Unionists Call for Swift End to Western Sanctions on Syria

Participants at a trade union symposium in Brussels condemned the economic sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union against Syria, its people and its workers.

The two-day symposium, which was held by the All Workers Militant Front of Greece from Oct. 19-20, aimed to rally support for the Syrian people against imperialism, wars and the intervention of the EU and NATO.

Forum-goers called on President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, as well as EU and U.S. citizens, to work to lift the the sanctions imposed on the Syrian people.

The participants, some of which had toured Syria, pointed out that their visits with the union leaders in Syria had provided them with a deeper and clearer picture of the situation facing the country. They noted that while terrorist groups were being provided with technological and financial support, the Syrian people suffered in all aspects of their lives.
