Turkish Security Closes Major Syrian Opposition Office in Gaziantep Over ‘Terrorist’ Ties

Sources in the Turkish city of Gaziantep told Al-Arabi al-Jadeed that Turkish security forces on Thursday night raided the office of the Ghad al-Souri (Syria’s Tomorrow) movement, which is headed by Ahmad al-Jarba, the former leader of the opposition Syrian National Coalition.

The sources said that the security forces arrested all of those working in the office on the charge of working with the Kurdish Democratic Union Party in Syria, which the Turkish government classifies as a “terrorist organization.”

On the other hand, the sources said that the closing of the office came as a result of the lack of official license from Turkish authorities.

Turkish security forces arrested lawyer Durham Heneidi, a representative of the head of the movement, at his house in the Turkish city of Urfa last Saturday.

On March 11, 2016, Jarba announced in the Egyptian capital of Cairo that he was forming the Ghad al-Souri movement opposed to the Assad regime.

The sources from the Syrian opposition said that Jarba supported armed Arab groups under the Western-backed Syrian Democratic Forces banner, of which Kurdish militias form the backbone.
