Syrian Government Providing for Syrians: Jaafari

Jaafari warns states will regret their policies on Syria
Syrian Government Providing for Syrians: Jaafari

The Syrian government is still doing its best to provide necessary humanitarian needs for Syrians, despite political, economic and media pressure, Syria's permanent representative to the U.N. Bashar al-Jaafari said Tuesday.

During a Security Council session to discuss the Human Rights Council report on Syria, Jaafari said that the Syrian government has actively and seriously participated in negotiations, resulting in the release of the revised 5th Humanitarian Response Plan.  The plan was devised out of a commitment to constructive cooperation with the U.N. and in order to deal realistically and positively with the humanitarian ramifications of current events in Syria, Jaafari said.

"The media, political and diplomatic machine is still producing numbers that are either exaggerated or distorted regarding the number of people who were killed, displaced or detained in Syria," Jaafari said, adding that those who present and adopt these numbers "don't check the background and details of deceased or displaced individuals, nor do they factor in the number of those killed from the Syrian army and security forces in their statistics."

Syria's representative asserted that if the Security Council member countries don't take measures to curb terrorism in Syria, it will come "back to haunt" everyone.

"A day will come when the governments of some of the member countries will regret what they are doing to Syria's people, economy and infrastructure," he said.
