Syria Claims it destroyed Israeli Vehicle inside its Territory

Syria said it destroyed an Israeli vehicle which entered its territory from the occupied Golan territories, near the village of Bir Ajam, after crossing the ceasefire line Tuesday.

The Israeli army warned of "consequences" if the fire continued from what it said was Syrian territory against Israeli troops in the occupied Golan Heights.

"The village is located in a liberated area of Syrian territory, where there are armed terrorist groups," the Syrian army General Command said in a statement issued Tuesday, and reported by SANA.

"Following that, the Israeli enemy fired two rockets from occupied Tal al-Fares, toward the Syrian village of al-Zubaidiah," the statement said, adding that that there were no injuries.

The army saidthe Israeli aggression was aimed at raising the collapsed morale of terrorist groupsafter they were dealt a "painful blow" at the hands of the Syrian armed forces in recent days, especially in Qusseir.

The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces said that blatant Israeli aggression confirms that the Zionist entity is directly involved in events in Syria and coordinating with the armed terrorist groups operating in the country.

The statement said Syria will respond to any breach or attempt to violate its sovereignty.

"Whoever thinks that he is able to test our strength and preparedness to maintain our dignity and sovereignty is mistaken," the statement said.

But the head of Israel's armed forces warned Syrian President Bashar Assad Tuesday that there would be "consequences" if fire continues from Syrian territory against Israeli troops.

Hours after Israeli troops and Syrian forces exchanged fire across the ceasefire line, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz said "If he (Assad) disturbs the Golan Heights, he will have to bear the consequences."

"We cannot and shall not allow the Golan Heights to become a comfort zone for Assad," he was quoted as saying byIsraeli television.

The Syrian foreign ministry Tuesday reiterated Syria's right to respond immediately to any breach of its sovereignty and called upon the U.N. Security Council to put an end to Israeli violations.

The ministry sent two identical letters to the president of the Security Council and the U.N. Secretary General regarding the incident, saying Syrian armed forces had destroyedthe Israeli vehicle after it breached the ceasefire line and entered Syria from the occupied territories.

The letters also referred to the previous incidents in which two rockets were fired by Israel from the occupied site of Tal al-Faras toward al-Zubaidiah village.

"Subsequent to our previous letters addressed to you, the latest of which was sent on 8 May , 2013, regarding the Israeli violations against  Syrian sovereignty, and its breach of the Disengagement Agreement,  we write to inform you that an Israeli vehicle breached the ceasefire line at 1:10 am on 21 May , 2013 and headed toward BirAjam village, located in the liberated area of the Golan," the letters read
