Shaaban Urges China to Play Pivotal Role in Stamping Out Terrorism

Presidential advisor Bouthaina Shaaban said that China should play a key role in Syria, particularly in light of the need for greater cooperation with the Syrian army and its allies in the region.

Shaaban’s comments came during a press conference with journalists following a meeting on Saturday with China’s Special Envoy to Syria Xie Xiaoyan.

She said that the alliance supported by China and Russia is standing in the face of the Islamic State (ISIS), which the U.S. and its allies finance and arm. Shaaban said that Washington’s agenda intersects with the agendas of ISIS, which aim at tearing the region apart and depleting its resources — serving the interests of Israel and the U.S.

The advisor also lauded China for using the right of veto in the United Nations Security Council several times for the benefit of the Syrian people to assist them in confronting the war targeting them.
