Russian forces over the last week have delivered heavy weapons, mortars and advanced artillery missiles to their units inside the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus, a regime source reported.
The source revealed to Zaman al-Wasl that the forces have situated themselves behind Syrian untis on the Hosh Nasri and Hosh Farah fronts, adding that Russian forces were deployed in many areas of Eastern Ghouta.
The Russian step is unprecedented as Moscow prepares its ground forces to conduct military operations in the Damascus suburb for the first time.
The regime’s sources revealed that the Russian tanks were equipped with artillery with with a firing distance of up to 70 km, as well as BM-27 Uragan rocket launcher systems which have a distance of up to 35 km.
Some of the Russian launchers are also equipped with reconnaissance drones for surveying the surrounding area before shelling.
