The leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said that Israel’s gamble on the success of terrorist organizations to undermine Syria has failed, pointing to anti-terror campaigns in the towns of Arsal and Fleita several weeks ago.
Speaking at an event on the anniversary of Hezbollah’s 2006 war with Israel, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said that members affiliated to the Saraya Ahl al-Sham rebel group will leave Arsal within the next few days.
“We all wait for the Lebanese army’s decision to launch a major battle to liberate the rest of the Lebanese Jroud [Arsal] region,” he added.
The secretary-general noted continued efforts by the U.S. and Israel to prevent the defeat of Islamic State (ISIS), as its downfall would signify a victory for Syria and the resistance. He said that America is aware that the game is now over in Syria after having backed terrorist groups with arms and money.
Nasrallah said that the Lebanese army will be victorious against ISIS in Ras Baalbek and the outskirts of Al-Qaa, stressing that Washington will not be able to undermine the strength and great will of the resistance. Hezbollah, Iran and Syria refer to their regional anti-Israel alliance as the axis of resistance.
He also underlined the importance of opening borders and reaching an understanding with Syria as it would serve the national interests of Lebanon, pointing to the shift in attitudes of some countries toward the Assad government and the gradual collapse of the opposition following the diplomatic crisis in the Gulf.
