Tens of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia members were killed and wounded in Deir ez-Zor province following an accidental airstrike by the International Coalition, during their attack on the Hajin area, the last stronghold of the Islamic State (ISIS).
Local sources said that the coalition raid killed six SDF fighters and wounded more than 15 others and that after this ISIS was able to regain a number of areas it had lost.
Informed military sources said that the SDF had tried to attack ISIS positions around the city of Hajin but that the lack of coordination with American forces derailed the operation, leading to the Kurdish militias fleeing from the area, which ISIS then retook.
They added that while providing air cover during the SDF attack the American F-16 fighters carried out the accidental strikes, killing six fighters and wounding 15 others.
ISIS was able to kill 10 SDF militia members in an ambush in the Hajin desert yesterday, and also carried out an attack targeting the al-Omar oil field area, east of Deir ez-Zor, burning wells before withdrawing from the area.
