Government Offers Aid and Basic Services: PM

The government is offering care, aid and free basic services to citizens in need under the current crisis, Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi said Wednesday.

Chairing a meeting of the Higher Committee for Relief, Halqi highlighted the financial and psychological support that the government is offering citizens. He also expressed regret over the exploitation of humanitarian conditions of the displaced Syrians by neighboring countries, through the theft of international aid that goes "straight to their coffers."

Halqi called upon Syrian families living in camps to ''cast away humility and hunger, and return to your homeland,'' reiterating that the government's doors are always open to citizens.

''Syria's potential and resources are many and varied," Halqi said.

"It has a large reserve of basic materials, oil derivatives and medicine."

He said the government is working to rehabilitate what has been destroyed and to keep basic services running across the country.

He also referred to a government decision to build 10,000 residential units to host affected families, which are to be redistributed to the families of state employees once the crisis ends.
