Foreign Ministry: Syria Deeply Concerned Over Developments in Yemen

An official source at the Foreign Ministry said Syria expresses its deep concern over the latest developments in Yemen, on Thursday.

Syria calls for dialogue among the Yemeni parties to arrive at a political solution that meets the will and aspirations of the Yemeni people, according to the source, who mentioned Syria’s demand for this process to be respected by the international community.

Gulf warplanes, led by Saudi Arabia, launched an air assault on several civilian and military positions in Yemen on Thursday, claiming the lives of several civilians, including women and children.

“Saudi warplanes bombed Sanaa airport and other important sites in Yemen”, a SANA reporter in Yemen claimed.

Member of the political council of the Yemeni Houthis movement, Mohammad al-Bekhiti, affirmed that the illegality of the Saudi air assault on Yemeni capital of Sanaa, serving the US project and enemies of the Islamic nation.

”Saudi Arabia interferes in Yemen’s local affairs to undermine any national project”, Bekhiti said in a press statement, adding that the Yemeni people stand together to encounter the Saudi assault and will bravely face the war imposed on it.

Bekhiti asserted that coming days will prove the assault was a mistake, while Yemen will react to any assault similarly.

A source at Yemen’s Defense Ministry said the Yemeni army and armed forces – with support from all the Yemeni people – would encounter the assault, which violates all international laws and Yemeni sovereignty.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned the Saudi military operations against Yemen as a violation of Yemen’s sovereignty, warning that the operations will only lead to the bloodshed of innocent people.

In a statement to the Iranian al-Alam news channel in Switzerland, Zarif called on Saudi Arabia to immediately halt their military operations in Yemen.
