The Media Office of Army of Fatah, an Islamist rebel coalition active in northern Syria, issued a statement announcing military operations in the two pro-regime towns of Kefraya and al-Fuaa, countryside of Idleb.
Abu Abdullah, an official from the Ahrar ash-Sham rebel group confirmed to al-Souria Net that "the pro-regime villages of al-Fuaa and Kefraya will be targeted with different kinds of weapons, in response to the massacres committed by the regime in Zabadani", adding: "the bombing will continue as long as the regime and Hezbollah continue their attacks on our brothers in Zabadani".
The media activist and member of Binnish Coordination Committee, Mohammed Haj Qaddour, said that al-Fuaa was targeted with a barrage of rockets, mortars and heavy machine guns Wednesday afternoon. The bombing targeted regime fortifications on the outskirts of the village, while regime artillery located inside the village targeted the city of Binnish in response, leading to the death and injury of a number of civilians and the destruction of residential buildings.
Al-Fuaa and Kefraya are the only majority Shiite towns in the province of Idleb, with a population estimated at nearly 60,000 people, a significant number have recently fled to the city of Idleb.
