Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala, stressed that the US seeks to exploit UN reports and statements by its employees to justify its military attacks before any investigation into its allegations and accusations.
“The mechanism of the UN has been exploited for justifying the war against Syria and that it is time for shedding light on this issue,” Ala said Wednesday during a symposium organized by the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) under the title ‘Syria: Concept of Challenge.’
The symposium was organized on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Ala added that the coercive economic measures imposed on Syria are unilateral and they contradict the principles of human rights.
He said that the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) has rejected the aggression on Syria.
Ala noted that the West didn’t wait for the arrival of investigation teams in Douma and they launched a tripartite (US-British-French) aggression on Syria based on the statement issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) despite the attempts of the WHO Director-General to later disavow the content of the statement.
The Ambassador referred to the latest report of the International Committee on eastern Ghouta, refuting the accusations which it contained.
Ala said that the report comes in framework of the role of the committee and it came as a result of the instructions it received from the states which sponsor the resolutions on prolonging the mandate of the committee.
Ambassador Ala touched upon the coercive unilateral measures against Syria, affirming that these measures are illegal and unethical.
For his part, Former British Ambassador in Syria Peter Ford stressed that terrorist groups in Syria have used chemical weapons against civilians, which the West has accused the Syrian Army of, and it has launched military aggressions against its positions under this pretext.
Ford revealed that he has information that the investigation committee for eastern Ghouta has been under intense pressure by the US to accuse the Syrian Government of the alleged chemical attack in Douma in its latest report.
He criticized the other biased sides of the report of the international investigation, particularly their ignorance of the crimes committed by forces of the so-called “International Coalition” in Raqqa and the occupation of parts of Syrian territory by US and Turkish forces as well as the latest tripartite aggression on Syria.
He affirmed that the Syrian military victory over terrorist organizations has become an undisputable reality.
Rapporteur on unilateral coercive measures Idris Jazairi criticized the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, indicating that they have aggravated the situation in Syria throughout the war launched against it.
Jazairi noted that the health sector has been severely affected by the sanctions imposed on Syria.
He clarified that the coercive measures don’t only affect the Syrians, but they also have repercussions on about a million and a half Palestinians who are living in Syria.
