Lattakia: Rebels Kill 3 Regime Troops in Missile Attack

Syrian rebels killed three regime troops and wounded five others in the Mount Turkmen area, the last opposition stronghold in coastal Lattakia province, sources said Monday.

The Turkish-backed rebels hit a regime army barrack with a Kornet missile (a Russian portable anti-tank guided missile).

The regime army is mobilizing troops in the southern countryside of Idleb near Lattakia, seeking to take the last stronghold in Mount Turkman, activists say.

On Saturday, four troops were killed and seven more wounded in clashes with rebels on the Kabana battlefront.

The strategic mountainous area has been under major attack by regime forces and allied militias over the past few weeks.

The regime army has been using heavy aerial and ground bombardments, but rebels are still showing fierce resistance.

So far, rebels have thwarted three incursion attempts this week, killing at least 25 troops.

Eight years of war in Syria have killed 560,000 people and driven half the pre-war population of 22 million from their homes, including more than 6 million as refugees to neighbouring countries.
